Vita

Philipp completed his degree in physics at the University of Bern in 1998 and obtained his PhD there in 2001 with a thesis on theoretical particle physics.

In the same year, he joined Keller Schneider Patent- und Markenanwälte AG in Bern. In 2002, he completed a postgraduate programme in intellectual property at ETH Zurich, and three years later was admitted as a European Patent Attorney.

In 2006, Philipp became a partner at Keller & Partner Patentanwälte AG. From 2009 to 2011, he held a teaching post in IP at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Faculty of Technology & Architecture. In 2012, he took up the post of part-time judge at the Federal Patent Court, and in 2014 he obtained the ‘Patent Litigation in Europe’ diploma from the University of Strasbourg. Since 2019, he has also been working as an InnoSuisse Special Coach.

Practice

Philipp draws on the skills he honed in theoretical physics to analyse complex processes and technologies and to articulate them clearly. His technical scope of work is correspondingly broad. His exceptional ability to grasp abstract concepts has made him a recognised specialist in software patents. His legal experience extends to official opposition proceedings, patent litigation in the courts, and trade mark disputes before regulatory bodies and administrative courts.

Philipp is a Swiss patent attorney, a European Patent Attorney and a representative before the Unified Patent Court (UPC). As the owner of Keller & Partner, he knows that the collaborative work of many people on a single project often resembles a symphony: it depends on the brilliance of the individual team members and equally on their collective interplay.

Philipp’s technical expertise spans software, mechanical engineering and robotics, information technology, printing technology, railway engineering, and furniture manufacturing.

His working languages are German and English.
